Job Description

The ideal candidate will be: 

• a student-centered educator, skilled in working with teenagers; 
• experienced in interfaith settings; 
• an ordained Episcopal Priest (or on the ordination track); 
• skilled in both preaching and pastoral care; 
• eager to work collaboratively with colleagues; 
• an effective oral and written communicator; 
• committed to developing an equitable and inclusive classroom and community; 
• committed to improving their practice through peer observation and professional development;
• dedicated to making positive contributions to the student experience both inside and outside the classroom, including in dorms, on teams and clubs, and through advising. 

Specific duties and responsibilities include: 

• Assisting the Chaplain in planning chapel services, including collaboration with the music/choral team, and student leadership of Chapel; 
• Co-managing student chapel leaders with the Chaplain; 
• Assisting in planning of special chapel services, including bringing guest speakers to chapel;
• Training and overseeing student acolytes and readers; 
• Preaching approximately 6 times per trimester during Sunday and weekday services;
• Participating in the regular rotation of celebrants for Sunday Holy Communion service;
• Assisting in providing pastoral care to all members of the Kent Community; 
• Assisting with confirmation class and mid-week Bible study groups; 
• Serving as faculty liaison and mentor to student faith groups, helping them engage their spiritual journey;
• Teaching three academic classes in Religion (or other, based on the applicant’s experience) consistent with the mission, values, and standards established by Kent School;
• Coaching two seasons of interscholastic sports or an equivalent (usually three seasons) of co-curricular activities;
• Performing regular duty in our residential program;
• Participating in Faculty committees; 
• Serving as Advisor to 5-7 students; and 
• Maintaining Public Passenger Endorsement to drive a school vehicle for school activities. 

Additional Requirements: 

• Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test;
• Maintain punctual and regular attendance; 
• Work is performed on a smoke free campus.
