We are looking for an experienced cabinet maker who is looking for a challenging and diverse work environment. You will inspect, repair, modify, construct, rebuild, and maintain woodwork and other cabinet structures. The position is in Thunderbolt, Ga. Monday thru Friday. Pay ranges based on experience and is open for negotiation and discussion.

Technical Skills

  • Transfer dimensions to marine construction materials using tape measure, square and marking/layout tools & devices of all types.
  • Operate stationary power tools, hand power tools and hand tools to cut, form and finish materials to yacht quality standards.
  • Make accurate cuts of wood and other materials using table and chop saws and other related power tools.
  • Excellent working knowledge of most woodworking joints in the marine industry, such as scarf, sill splice, lap, finger and dovetail.
  • Layout, cut and assemble components, such as furniture, cabinets, decks, trim, handrails, cap rails, doors, paneling, boxes and other marine related joinery work.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use and application of epoxies and other adhesives to bond parts and perform basic joint construction and repair, while also being familiar with yachts varnishes and polyurethanes as applied to custom yacht cabinetry and furniture.
  • Ability to meet schedule and budget for projects, inclusive of working overtime when necessary.
  • Understands yachting terminology, local and industry, e.g., port/starboard, bow/stern, gump (trim molding) and bung (wood plug).
  • Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and conceptual hand sketches if required.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting leaks, squeaks, warps and making recommendations for appropriate repair.
  • Ability to apply caulking compounds, epoxies, cements, screws and fasteners using appropriate material choices to specified or otherwise correct lengths.

Requirements

  • High school or general equivalency degree (GED) required with course work in wood and/or metals preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations.
  • Knowledge, operation, and set-up of tape measure, square, hand saw, hand plane, table saw, and chop saw, planer, joiner, band saw, shaper, surface sander, router, vacuum pumps, and inverted router.
  • Sixty (60) months Cabinetry work experience desired with boatbuilding/repair experience a plus.
  • Must have a complete understanding of marine grade types of hardwoods and plywood for each application; as well as types of glue to use under assembly for the intended application.
  • Must possess the ability to periodically board vessels in and out of the water, work steadily in confined spaces, climb, lift and move lumber, tools and supplies as necessary.
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, pull, push, reach, hear, near vision, kneel, talk, stand, grasp, lift up to 50lbs and be able to walk quickly to and from job locations up to 500 yards in distance are required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employers.
