The Lead Seamstress assists the Wardrobe & Costume Shop Supervisor by providing daily team leadership and technical support to the Wardrobe team which includes training and coordinating work assignments, managing the work floor timeline, speaking into the construction process in addition to the overall personal and professional development of team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Actively promote and exemplify a culture that upholds our Mission, Values and Safety Statements.
- Work to build trust and teamwork throughout your entire department and all other show run departments.
- Collaborate with the Show Operations Leadership Team to help maintain the technical and artistic vision of the show.
- Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings with members of the Wardrobe team in order to provide support, positive influence and accountability, as well as attend any required leadership meetings as directed by your supervisor.
- Partner with the Design Team to facilitate raw materials procurement related to show build, including tracking, and receiving fabrics and collecting project components in preparation for the show build needs.
- Create, update and manage documentation for several processes, including the costume manual, show build tracking, costume physical inventory, and technical design information reports.
- Keep the highest level of quality and accountability by accurately inventorying, storing and maintaining all fabrics, trims, accessories, and sewing supplies for all Sight and Sound Theatre Productions both on and off the stage.
- Pattern Drafting (flat and draping), cut, overlock, and sew complete costume pieces including hats, shoes, and accessories.
- Take accurate measurements, fit, and alter costumes as needed for the actors.
- Work with Craftsperson to modify fabrics by beading, embroidering, appliqueing, distressing, bonding, painting, or dyeing.

- Excellent communication, organizational and listening skills, humility, self-awareness, and a teachable spirit.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and flexible under pressure.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to work in a fast-moving environment while achieving high quality work, with the ability to shift priorities as needed.
- Strong knowledge of costume design and construction processes, experience in advanced sewing techniques and hands on sewing experience in costuming or fashion garment industry all highly desirable
- Candidate will have history in successful problem solving and proven ability to work effectively within a highly creative and collaborative team.
Education and / or Experience :Minimum Bachelor's degree from four-year school and / or 3 years of seamstress experience preferred.
