A Litigation Legal Assistant/Paralegal primarily supports litigation attorneys by managing case files, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents like pleadings and discovery requests, scheduling court appearances, preparing witnesses for depositions, and generally assisting with all aspects of the litigation process under the supervision of an attorney, ensuring adherence to court rules and deadlines with a strong focus on detail and organization.

Job Description

  • Provide administrative support to the firm’s Litigation Group
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents, including pleadings and correspondence
  • Prepare and format documents for court filings (both federal and state)
  • Manage case files and organize legal documents for easy access
  • Maintain attorneys’ calendars and ensure deadlines are met, including court dates and filings
  • Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, and other staff members
  • Use software tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, and document management systems to perform daily tasks efficiently
  • Support attorneys with trial preparation and assist during all phases of litigation

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Must have eminent domain background OR, at minimum, construction defect experience.
  • 7+ years of legal assistant experience, with a focus on litigation
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent
  • Familiarity with California state and federal court procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with legal software and calendaring tools
