Job Description SUMMARY Manages cultural art program for Cherokee Nation Businesses (CNB). Responsible for the creation of artistic displays, dissection of art matrix, procurement process of culturally appropriate art and artifacts for CNB and Cherokee Nation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes the following:
- Manages the design, procuring and development of artistic displays.
- Manages the purchase of culturally appropriate art and artifacts for CNB, and Cherokee Nation.
- Reviews cultural elements of design and interpretation of architectural plans and/or an art matrix.
- Oversees the selection and appropriate framing for art.
- Develops budgets, goals, and timelines and assigns tasks to ensure timely completion of project.
- Tracks expenses and minimizes exposure and risks for the fiduciary responsibility of each project.
- Communicates with architects, contractors, project owners and construction teams responsible for completing certain phases of each project.
- Ensures adherence of budget guidelines, quality of work and safety standards.
- Reviews construction sites periodically to ensure historical accuracy and details are being communicated and adhered to by all involved.
- Cross-trains with other members of the cultural art team, as well as purchasing, warehouse, and construction,
- Works in conjunction with architectural firms.
- Promotes awareness of Cherokee history, culture and heritage.
- Develops and maintains professional contacts within the art and historical community, especially among Native American tribes.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY Supervise/manage a department and have authority over hiring/firing/performance decisions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in resource management, Anthropology, Cherokee Studies, or related field and 3 years of experience working directly with Cherokee history, culture and heritage related projects or in a related work environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience in art/artifact procurement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Excellent communication, writing, and computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and/or an art matrix.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge about Cherokee history, culture and heritage from time immemorial to present day.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Work may be performed in a variety of settings, including climate-controlled office settings and casino floors which includes exposure to second-hand smoke and crowd noise. Work requires standing for long periods of time, climbing stairs, and lifting objects up to 100 lbs. Work may require varied shifts including, evenings and weekends, as needed. Work may require travel, including overnight stays
